Sara's Preview
Sara’s Story, a creative expression through dance and music of the emotions of a young girl who was abused by a man her parents trusted was screened in December 2025. An audience, which included several pupils and teachers from Sara’s school, Shirley High School for the Performing Arts where our VAWG workshops have been delivered, filled Studio 1 at the Garden Cinema in London’s West End.
Guests were welcomed by Kent Opera Chair, Robert Lacey, before hearing from Caroline Hay, VAWG Lead for the City of London’s Metropolitan Police. Caroline spoke candidly about the severity and long-term impact of violence against women and girls, highlighting the critical need to raise awareness and education initiatives for women and young people.
Aaron Johnson, who delivered the VAWG workshops on behalf of Kent Opera, was introduced, followed by Kate Ruby, Kent Opera board member and Head of DIVERT, the Metropolitan Police’s youth early intervention programme. Kate addressed the audience, sharing her professional perspective and thanking attendees for their support and engagement.
The evening concluded on an uplifting note with a stunning performance by pupils from Shirley High School, who showcased their exceptional talent and creativity, bringing the event to a memorable close.
